About BESTB4

Who are you?

BESTB4 is the direct-to-consumer site of an established Irish grocery import and distribution business. We supply the brands you know — Heinz, Cadbury, Kellogg's, Coca-Cola, Lurpak, Lyons, Tayto, Persil and many more — to supermarkets, convenience stores and food retailers across Ireland and the UK.

When we have overstock or near-best-before stock from that distribution business, we sell it here at warehouse prices instead of writing it off.

Where does the stock come from?

From our own warehouse. We're the importer — the same stock that goes onto supermarket shelves goes onto BESTB4 when there's surplus or it's approaching the best-before date.

Why is the price so much lower than the supermarket?

Two reasons stacked. First, you're buying direct from the importer — no wholesaler markup, no retailer markup, no shelf-stocking margin. Second, the stock is near its best-before date, so it's discounted further to move it quickly.

About the products

Is the food really safe to eat?

Yes, 100%. Best-before is a quality date set by the manufacturer — not a safety date. Most dry, tinned, packaged and sealed goods are perfectly safe to consume well beyond the best-before. Use-by dates are different — they apply to chilled and fresh items, and we treat those with shorter timelines and extra care.

What's the difference between best-before and use-by?
  • Best-before (BBD): quality indicator. Past the date the product may not be at peak flavour/texture, but it's safe. Applies to most pantry goods.
  • Use-by (UB): safety indicator. Applies to chilled and fresh items only. We only sell use-by stock with plenty of time left and ship it fast.
Are these the same products I'd buy in a supermarket?

Yes — same brand, same factory, often the same box. We're the people who shipped them to the supermarket in the first place. There's no quality difference.

Do you sell items past their best-before date?

Yes — sometimes, when stock has just gone past its best-before date and is still sealed, undamaged and in good condition. Past-BBD items are flagged clearly on the product page.

We recommend you give any past-BBD product a quick check before consuming — confirm the seal is intact, look at the contents, give it a smell. This is sensible practice for any food. If anything seems off, contact us within 48 hours for a refund or replacement.

Important: we never sell items past a use-by date. Use-by applies to chilled and fresh items and is a strict safety deadline.
